We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr passed away last night. He had suffered poor health for many years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and died peacefully in his sleep at home.
Steve Harris said “This is terribly sad news. Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time."
Bruce Dickinson adds “I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden. He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family”
As Maiden fans all know, Clive joined Maiden in 1979 and performed on the first three albums Iron Maiden (1980), Killers (1981) and The Number Of The Beast (1982). Prior to that he was a member of Samson, the band Bruce fronted before he too joined Maiden.

28.05.12: Best British album of the past 60 years: THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST In celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubillee in the UK, TNOTB was voted best British album released since 1952 as voted by the public in an HMV poll. The album got 9,18% of the votes and beat no less than four albums by The Beatles in the top 10.
11.05.12: Are you afraid of the dark? Iron Maiden's ninth studio album Fear Of The Dark was released 20 years ago today. How time flies! The album was their third no. 1 in the UK and spawned three singles in Be Quick Or Be Dead, From Here To Eternity and Wasting Love (not released in the UK). Fear Of The Dark was also the second album with Janick Gers on guitar and his first contribution as a song writer on no less than five tracks. The album is different in a few ways:
- It is the studio album with the most tracks on it (12). - It is the studio album with the most tracks not written by Steve Harris (5). - It was the first album with no Derek Riggs artwork. Melvyn Grant did a great job though. - It is the last album Martin Birch ever produced before his retirement. - It is an album with more topical themes lyrically going through it. - It was the last album with Bruce Dickinson before his return in 1999. - It is the studio album with the least played tracks live (5).

22.03.2012: "...and the number is 666" - 30 years on! The Number Of The Beast was released 30 years ago today. The album was recorded in Battery Studios in London and was produced by Martin Birch. It was Iron Maiden's third album and the debut with Bruce Dickinson at the mike, and it was also their first at no. 1 in the UK album charts. The story goes, that the band was pushing their bus through the snow on tour in Switzerland when it came to their knowledge the album was topping the charts, which puts their famous work ethics in a great perspective.
The album spawned their first top 10 single hit Run To The Hills and also included memorable songs like Children Of The Damned, The Prisoner and Hallowed Be Thy Name. The latter being played at every Maiden show since! The Number Of The Beast will always stand up as one of the biggest classics in the Maiden canon - the album that really defined the band. There was no looking back after this.
The famous spoken intro to the title track, and second single, was done by some Barry Clayton, who passed away in late December 2011.

A must have....
02.02.11: Killers - 30 years on Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Killers album. The second Iron Maiden album is a landmark in many ways. It is the first with Martin Birch in the producer chair and Adrian Smith on guitar, and it is the last with Paul Di'anno at the mike. You can argue whether the songs are as strong and classic as on the debut album, but the production is definitely better and sharper. The album was a step further into what was yet to come.

01.10.10: Album anniversaries This weekend marks the 15 year anniversary of The X factor and 20 years since the release of No Prayer For The Dying. Personally, NPFTD is special as it was the first album of new material since I discovered the band in 1989. The album welcomed Janick Gers into the band and marked a return to their roots. The songs are shorter and more raw-edged than on previous albums. Stand-out tracks: Tailgunner, No Prayer For The Dying, Run Silent Run Deep. Not to forget the Number 1 UK single; Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter. TXF was also a very special album. Not only was it the tenth studio album, but it also welcomed a new member to the band; Blaze Bayley. The album is a long, dark and complex one to get into. The lyrics deal with personal and heavy subjects which is reflected in the song compositions. The darker tone also suited Blaze's singing style. Stand-out tracks: Sign Of The Cross, Man On The Edge, The Aftermath.
